For the 2012 Spring Trunk Show, the Asher Gallery is pleased to present new work from local jeweler, Anita Barnes, and woodturner and former artist-in-residence, Tom Irven. Please join us on Thursday, April 26, from 5 – 7 PM, for a kick-off reception, and again on Saturday, April 28, from 11 AM – 4 PM. Both of these times offer shoppers a special opportunity to meet with the artists and discuss the motivations behind their pieces. If you are not able to come during these hours, their work will be available Friday – Sunday, April 27 – 29, during regular Asher Gallery hours.
You may be familiar with Tom Irven’s work. As a resident artist from 2002 - 2003, he was invited to take part in HCCC’s 10th anniversary exhibition,
Crafting Lives: 10 Years of Artists-in-Residence
. On view were two of his famous
Acorn Boxes
, as well as an unusual mobile. All three pieces displayed the innate sense of balance and form that is woven throughout his work. Tom’s pieces do not scream out to be seen, but rather continue a conversation with the viewer. His work ranges in price from $20 - $1200.
Several things inspired Anita Barnes’s delicate bejeweled necklaces and earrings. A youthful attraction to fibers, followed by collegiate studies in graphic design, produced her signature look of curves and geometric lines. But Anita looks farther afield for another influence–the color and movement found in her pieces were inspired by her trips to the Caribbean islands. As her jewelry feels light and airy, it’s easy to picture yourself thus adorned, strolling on a tropical night. Anita works with gold-fill chain and wire, semi-precious stones, crystal and, occasionally, precious stones. Most of her work ranges in price from $130 - $350.
